VELVET REBELLION RUNS RED WITH SECOND ‘SOVEREIGN’ SINGLE

RUN RED IS OUT NOW!

Velvet Rebellion charges into the next chapter of SOVEREIGN with “Run Red,” released August 20, 2026 as the second single from the band’s upcoming fourth album. Fast, defiant, and deliberately unruly, the song is about breaking free from expectations and discovering what happens when you stop editing yourself to make other people comfortable.

The song comes from a deeply personal place: a lifetime of being told how to behave, how loudly to speak, where the boundaries were, and which version of herself would be easiest for everyone else to accept. To “run red” is to stop borrowing someone else’s colors. It means choosing the parts of yourself that are loud, strange, passionate, imperfect, difficult, sensual, ambitious, or simply different, and refusing to apologize for the space they occupy.

“I think most of us learn pretty early which parts of ourselves make other people comfortable and which parts we’re supposed to turn down. Be quieter. Be sweeter. Don’t wear that. Don’t say that. Don’t want too much. Don’t take up so much space. After a while you can get frighteningly good at editing yourself without even realizing you’re doing it.

Run Red is not about becoming someone new, but finally giving the person who was already there permission to be seen. Whatever your color is, run with it. Mine just happens to be red.”

On Production:

“I want to tell you a little more about what it actually took to get this song into your ears.

The first riffs and stems for Run Red were laid down all the way back in February.

That means you’re hearing the end result of more than six months of work.

And the version that existed in February is definitely not the version you’re hearing today. 😂

The song went through countless iterations. Lyrics were written, rewritten, cut apart and rebuilt. Arrangements changed. Parts that worked disappeared because something better replaced them. Multiple real guitar performances were recorded and worked into the production. Real drums were added. Everything was refined, mixed, balanced and eventually given a complete professional mix and master.

We kept working on it until it sounded like Velvet Rebellion, rather than simply deciding it was “good enough.”

And that process isn’t unique to Run Red. This is the standard we’re holding ourselves to for every song on SOVEREIGN.

We use some incredible technology to make our music, and we’re proud of that. But technology is only part of the toolbox. There are also musicians, instruments, writing, rewriting, production decisions and a ridiculous number of hours hiding inside these songs.

Run Red took more than six months to become Run Red.

So now that it’s finally yours, turn it up obnoxiously loud for me. ❤️🔥

And if you hear some tiny detail you didn’t notice the first time?

Good.

There’s probably a story behind it. 😈”

“Run Red” continues the emerging philosophy of SOVEREIGN: identity without permission, choice without apology, and the understanding that knowing who you are means very little if you’re still afraid to live as that person.

“Run Red” is available now on major streaming platforms.

SOVEREIGN arrives October 2026.
