VELVET REBELLION SURRENDERS CONTROL WITH NEW SINGLE “YOU MUST LOVE ME”

YOU MUST LOVE ME IS OUT NOW!

Velvet Rebellion enters the most intimate territory of the SOVEREIGN era with “You Must Love Me,” a dark, sensual and emotionally volatile song about desire, control, vulnerability, and the terrifying realization that another person has become something you cannot simply walk away from.

The song begins with a woman who believes she understands desire perfectly. Attraction is easy. Seduction is familiar. Intimacy has rules, and she is accustomed to writing them. So when she first declares “You must love me,” it isn't really about love at all.

It's about power.

What begins as a one-night encounter refuses to remain one. The other person stays. Then returns. Somewhere between wanting them and waiting for them, certainty begins to fracture. The woman who entered the relationship holding all the cards suddenly discovers that she cares whether the other person leaves.

And four words begin changing underneath her.

“You must love me!” becomes less certain. The command becomes a plea for reassurance. Desire becomes attachment. Confidence gives way to fear as emotions she has spent her life dismissing as weakness begin breaking through defenses that had always worked before. By the song's final act, even the punctuation has changed.

“You must love me?”

Now it is a question. There is disbelief in it. Wonder. For perhaps the first time, she understands that someone has seen beyond the performance, the sexuality, the confidence and the armor, and stayed anyway. Her answer finally comes without strategy or leverage:

“AND I LOVE YOU TOO!”

Musically, the song follows the same transformation. Atmospheric guitars, melodic bass, textured drums and electronic elements establish a tense, sensual foundation before the arrangement steadily expands into something heavier and increasingly exposed.

At its heart, “You Must Love Me” is not simply a love song. It is about someone who believed love was weakness discovering that it is the first thing powerful enough to shatter her worldview and being grateful that it did.

“Lyrically and emotionally, this is probably the closest I've ever felt to something I've performed. It's easily my favorite song I've ever sung.

What gets me is how those same four words keep changing. The first ‘You must love me’ is almost arrogant. By the end, ‘You must love me?’ is a question she can barely believe she's asking.

And then she finally says, ‘AND I LOVE YOU TOO!’ I hear that as the first time she's ever said those words and completely meant them. No game. No leverage. No escape route.

She spent her life believing love was weakness, only to discover that love was the first thing powerful enough to shatter the way she saw herself and everyone around her. I understand her more than I probably want to admit.” ❤️
